Rennes is not moving anymore.

Ligue 1, Monaco 1 - 0 Stade Rennais. Defeated for the third time, Rennes managed another bad performance in stade Louis-II. Against the weak team of Monaco, Rennes’ players have not been able to create any opportunities and have conceded too many free kicks, one of whom leading to Monaco’s goal in second half.

Rennes is not moving anymore.

Against an opponent who stagnates at the bottom of the league table since the beginning of the season, Rennes took rapidly control of the game. After a minute, the “Red and Blacks” obtained a corner kick after a shot from Kembo deflected by Monaco’s defence. The best opportunity for Rennes happened minutes later. Alone on the right side, Tettey crossed the ball for the head of Boukari. Unfortunately the head of former Lens’ player hit the crossbar of Ruffier’s goal (4’).

Better in the game, Stade Rennais took advantage of the approximations of Monaco’s defence. After 9 minutes, Ruffier had to stop Montano’s opportunity. The pass to the Colombian player was however too far to be really dangerous. François Pinault was present in stade Louis-II to see Rennes wasting opportunities in the first-half.

Pinault in the changing room

From the middle of the first half, Rennes’ players started to lose control of the game. Even though Monaco was not that dangerous, they had a few opportunities with a strike from Park above Douchez’ goal (37’) and two shots from Hansson (23’) and Moukandjo (35’). Rennes had then major difficulties getting close to Ruffier’s goal. Unable to keep the ball Antonetti’s men realised to many mistakes...Enough for François Pinault to go down to the changing room at half time...

Despite a strike from Dalmat (46’), the control of the ball was mainly for Monaco in the beginning of the second half. At the 51’, after a good combination, Haruna entered in Rennes’ box and shot. His strike was stopped at the last minute by Boye. Monaco could not create much but on the other side Rennes could not do better...

A goal after another free kick conceded

Nonetheless, the “Red and Blacks” put pressure on Monaco half an hour before end. After 63 minutes, Montaño got rid of Hansson and passed the ball to Boukari who entered in Monaco’s box but Ruffier managed to stop him. On the counter-attack following Rennes’ opportunity, Monaco’s players were close to surprise the “Red and Blacks”. The “surprise” came soon after though. After another free kick for Monaco, Welcome deflected the trajectory of the ball and tricked Nicolas Douchez (1-0, 73’).

Monaco had tried to create some opportunities, but on the other side Rennes seemed unable to react. Rennes’ players will not be able anyway. After 6 matches without any win and -more worrying- a third defeat in a row, Rennes’ players are slowly moving away from the podium of Ligue 1. Stade Rennais is now trying to «keep the 5th place», according to Nicolas Douchez after the match, and will have to take some points this Saturday against Bordeaux to find again some confidence.
