Stade Rennais - Nantes : Here we meet again...

First Run

After 3 weeks of preparation, the Stade Rennais will have a new taste of competition againt Nantes, this Wednesday at the Stade Municipal, Carnac (18h30).

In the seaside resort since last Thursday, the players are experiencing a very demanding pre-season camp. With two trainings a day, mainly focused on athletic and fitness work, the players are tested to their limits.

A friendly game in which Frédéric Antonetti will be able to rotate most of his squad, in order to start designing the shape of his first-team in view of the Ligue 1, starting on August 7th with a game against Lille, Route de Lorient.

Having undergone surgery on his right knee on June 8th, Onyekachi Apam has trained alone since his arrival. For this match, Frédéric Antonetti will have to do without him, as he will have to rest Alexander Tettey, still nursing a quadriceps injury. An injury he picked up at the end of last season, which ended his season prematurely.

Indisposed last week, Johann Carrasso will be able to play in the goals for one half of the game, just as Nicolas Douchez. In Onyekachi Apam’s absence, Antonetti will probably start the game with Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik & Kader Mangane as central defenders, in order to build some cohesion before the nigerian international’s return.

The Group : Carrasso, Douchez, N’Diaye - Boye, Danzé, Dembélé, Fanni, Jebbour, Kana-Biyik, Mangane, Souprayen, Théophile-Catherine - Brahimi, Doumbia, Lemoine, Leroy, M’Vila, Mandjeck, Marveaux, Oniangue, Pajot - Badiane, Bangoura, Camara, Kembo-Ekoko, Montaño.

A younger team?

As we know, the 1990 generation – winner of the Gambardella Cup two years ago – is starting to push his way into the first team… After Yann M’Vila, and in a lesser extent Kévin Théophile-Catherine, Yacine Brahimi and Samuel Souprayen will be next in line, after a year out on loan, in Clermont Ferrand for the young offensive midfielde of Algerian origin, and in Dijon for the Reunion-born defender.

A few weeks ago, Antonetti had already announced he was counting on these two high-potential elements. According to the latest echoes from Carnac, it sounds like Abdoul Camara has managed to seduce his coach as well. Trained as a left winger, his main strengths are his power and his ability to eliminate his opponents. Left-footed, this young player was loaned to Vammes during the 2009-2010 season, and has a profile quite unique in Antonetti’s squad at the moment.

Finally, Vincent Pajot, who just signed a one season-long professional contract (plus two optional years) could be sent out on loaned because of the quantity of players on Rennes’ midfield. Regular in his good performances with the Reserves last year, the Rennes defensive midfielder is very likely to be loaned - just as Gaëtan Caro – during this summer transfer window and gather some experience.

Nantes with a headstart

Still blocked in Ligue 2, Nantes has been back to training since June 21st, with Baptiste Gentili in control. After a first training camp in Annecy, from June 25th to July 3rd, the Nantais have since been back to their training ground of La Jonelière.

In terms of recruitment, Nantes has been strengthened with the arrivals of Omar Benzerga (Lille), Aurélien Capoue (back from loan in Auxerre), Bruno Cheyrou (Anorthosis Famagusta), Ronny Rodelin (back from loan in Troyes) and Damien Texier (free agent). On the departure tab, Stefan Babovic has been released on a free transfer, while David De Freitas (Angers), Florian Jarjat (Troyes), Claudiu Keserü (Angers), Massamba Sambou (back from loan, Monaco) and Guirane N’Daw (Saint-Etienne) have definitely left the yellow and greens.

Last Saturday, in Pornic, Gentili’s men have beaten Valenciennes (1-0) thanks to a goal from Omar Benzerga. A deserved victory over this game, where former Rennes player Bruno Cheyrou was wearing the captain’s armband. Starting as a midfielder during the first half, the three time French international played as a central defender in second half. A position he had already been playing on during the 2007-2008 under Guy Lacombe’s management.

On the club’s official website, Gentili was enjoying his men’s performance, who played on a traditional 4-3-3: "I’ve been positively surprised. We showed character and discipline. For a first game, I’m rather satisfied. The scored doesn’t bear much meaning , we have to keep our heads down and keep on working".

FC Nantes (first half) : Kamenar - Keita, Barré, Djilobodji, Tixier - Vainqueur, Cheyrou, Benzerga - Lee Yang Jae, Djordjevic, Capoue.

FC Nantes (second half) : Zelazny - Keita, Djilobodji, Cheyrou, Carole - Benzerga, Vainqueur, Akouassaga - Zerka, Bekamenga, Lee Yang Jae.

Wednesday, July 14th, 18h30, Stade Municipal de Carnac ; Stade Rennais – Nantes, friendly game
