Contracted to Rennes until June 2012, Tongo Hamed Doumbia has signed a two years extension of his contract with the “Rouge et Noir”, the club’s official website announced today. The young midfielder is now tied to the Stade Rennais until June 2014.

Doumbia, aged 21, arrived in Brittany from Chateauroux last summer. He was also having contacts with the Olympique Lyon at the time. Having only started two Cup games and bits of Ligue 1 matches with the Stade Rennais (3 games, 20 minutes), he was one of the best players in the reserve squad last season however.

Followed by the Juventus Turin, Doumbia was about to go to Arles Avignon on loan for the 2010-2011 season. Fabien Lemoine’s injury last Saturday in Nancy changed the plans though, for a player Pierre Dréossi described as a “bet on the future” at his arrival in Rennes
