After losing his place in the starting eleven to Julien Féret this summer, Stéphane Dalmat has become surplus to requirements in Rennes’ professional squad since the end of September. Stopped by a malaise after the game against Atlético, and by thigh pains since, the midfielder is now left out of the squad and he could not confirm his good start of the season (six assists in 300 minutes played between July and September).

As Frédéric Antonetti has called a group of no less than 25 players to make the trips to Madrid and Ajaccio, the eldest member of his squad will remain in Rennes « for personal reasons », the Rennes manager explained in his press conference.
«With him, we have reach a dead end situation. It didn’t work as we hoped. We could discuss it, but people have to be welcomed, it was not his case”, Antonetti regretted, who explained that Dalmat is “a good players” with whom the club “hasn’t been successful”. Last season, the Corsican manager had deplored the hostility of a few people close to the club’s management toward the former Sochaux player. Regularly booed, the player hasn’t been spared by the fans of the Stade de la Route de Lorient either.

«The club, just like him, are asking the question : is it time for him to find a new challenge this winter ? » Antonetti questioned. With a contract reaching its term next June, Dalmat could therefore leave Brittany this January. Last June, France Football had mentioned an interest from clubs from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
