Antonetti criticizes the referee

Frédéric Antonetti was fuming after the game between Olympique Marseille and Stade Rennes. The manager did not really appreciate two decisions by the match’s referee, M. Buquet. First, the decision not to send Steve Mandanda off after he caused the 5th minute penalty, for which he only received a yellow card; but also the fact another blatant penalty wasn’t givem a few minutes later, when Heinze pushed Kembo in the penalty area.

«I think that after five minutes, we should have played with eleven against ten, the coach affirmed. Why are people sent off elsewhere but not here? Mandanda should not have remained on the pitch, if the rules were applied the same. Then, another penalty wasn’t given”.

On the Marseille side, Didier Deschamps expressed his satisfaction with the results, despite the two points lost by his team. “It’s a point for us, one more, against a really good Rennes team that showed power, quality, the OM manager explained. It had nothing to do with their game I’ve watched against Lorient”. The former world champion also affirmed that the yellow card for his goalkeeper was the correct sanction. “If I understood well the meeting we had with the referees at the beginning of the season, when the ball rolls towards the outside and the player doesn’t seem able to reach it, it only deserves a yellow card. I think the rule was applied”.
