Atlético - Rennes : an Icelandic referee

On Thursday evening at Vicente-Calderon, Stade Rennais will reunite with a referee that has already been in charge of one of their game in Europe.

Indeed, it is the Icelander Kristinn Jakobsson who has been named by the UEFA to officiate in this game. Experienced (42 years old), he has been an international referee since 1997 and has refereed a few Champions League games.
During his long career, he has already come across Stade Rennais since he was the referee for Rennes – Lokomotiv Sofia in October 2007. A game lost by the Rouge et Noir on their pitch (1-2), but which didn’t prevent the Bretons to qualify against the Bulgarian.

An entrepreneur outside of football, he has notably been in charge of the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Differdange this season in the Champions’ League. Known for being conciliating with the players, he only gives an average three yellow cards per game, and one red card every five to six games.
