Europa League: Sion excluded, the Celtic qualified!

Europa League: Sion excluded, the Celtic qualified!

Meeting this Friday, the UEFA’s commission of discipline decided. Guilty, according to the European federation, of not respecting a recruiting ban.

Qualified on the pitch after they beat the Celtic Glasgow (Scotland) in the play-offs, the Swiss club has been declared as losing both games on forfeit. As a direct consequence, the Scottish club is qualified in the I group of the Europa League, joining l’Atlético Madrid, Udinese and Stade Rennais.
Replacing the FC Sion, the Celtic Glasgow should therefore come to the Stade de la Route de Lorient on Thursday, 20th October, before hosting the “Rouge et Noir” in Celtic Park on Thursday, November 3rd.

Naturally unhappy at the decision made by the UEFA, the FC Sion announced on their website that they would react and not leave things happening this way. The manager of the Swiss club, former Saint-Etienne player Laurent Roussey, declared that UEFA “stole something [he had] earned on the pitch”.
