FC Sion: the UEFA awaits for the CAS' decision

Silent since the Swiss justice ordered to reinstate FC Sion to the Europa League (read previously), the UEFA has finally given an official reaction.

The UEFA executive committee held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, and stated that is has no statutory authority to reinstate the Swiss club in the competition, since this decision should be taken by the UEFA’s disciplinary authorities.
Since these authorities already condemned FC Sion twice this far, the UEFA decided to wait for the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) , whose « independency has been recognized by the Swiss federal court of justice ». The UEFA also announced to have asked for an accelerated procedure to the CAS on 26th September and that it will follow the CAS’ decision immediately, whatever the decision is.

This statement didn’t satisfy the FC Sion’ managers, who accuse the UEFA to try to gain time. They also suspect connivances between the European federation and the CAS. « We are undertaking everything we can to run away from this instance. The UEFA, on the contrary, does everything they can to proceed with them », regrets the Swiss club’s lawyer, Mr. Zen-Ruffinen, on the Le Matin’s columns.
