Former Staff: Halilhodžić named as Algeria's new national team coach

Former Stade Rennais manager Vahid Halilhodžić has been named as the new national coach of Alegria, the Algerian Football Federation announced this Wednesday. The Bosnian manager has signed a three years contract.

Halilhodžić continues his world travels, after experiences in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Ivory Coast and Croatia since he left Paris Saint-Germain in February 2005. This will be his second experience as the coach of a national team, after he qualified Ivory Coast for the 2010 World Cup before being dismissed for obscure reasons.
The former striker comes out of a successful season managing Dinamo Zagreb, where he managed the League and Cup double. But eventually, a conflict with his president ended Halilhodžić’s ter mat the Croatian club, after he didn’t accepty beeing « humiliated » in front of his players .

Now with Algeria, Halilhodžić’s first mission will be to save the appearances, since the Desert Foxes are in a pretty bad way, in last position in their qualifying group for the 2012 African Nations Cup.
