Europa League: The Red Star prepare the play-offs with a defeat

While Stade Rennes started their league season quite well by thumping Dijon (5-1) and snatching a draw against Paris (1-1) it isn’t the same for their future opponent in the Europa League.

This Sunday, for the first game week of the Serbian championship, the Red Star lost on the road at Spartak Zlatibor Voda, fifth (out of sixteen) in the league last season. In what the manager Robert Prosinečki considered a bad performance, the Red Star Belgrade conceded a goal in each half.
At the 25th minute, the club from Belgrade conceded a penalty, scored by Torbica, before Zlatibor Voda managed the break through a goal by Bratić at the 55th minute. Reduced down to ten men a few minutes later, Crvena Zvevda couldn’t fight back and recorded their first defeat of the season(0-2).

Although Stade Rennes’ future opponent haven’t prepared this first leg of the play-offs in the best of ways, the Serbs will certainly return in front of their fans with a feeling of revenge on Thursday. “The players showed against Ventspils (ed. : Belgrade’s previous Europa League opponent) that they could play a better sort of football. So expect a much better display against the French”, Prosinečki promised after the game.
