Ligue 1, Monaco - Stade rennais, Sunday, 17:00 CET. Facing a true hecatomb – especially in defence - Frédéric Antonetti will be satisfied to be able to rely on his vice-captain Romain Danzé for Stade Rennes’ trip to the Principality. The Finisterian is part of a squad in which youngsters Dimitri Foulquier and Kamal Issah also appear.
Good news for Frédéric Antonetti. While Romain Danzé’s absence this week-end seemed unavoidable, the right back is finally included in the squad to travel to Monaco.
Injured to the thigh against Lorient, the Finisterian has trained specifically all week, and his manager reckons he doesn’t risk a relapse if he plays. His presence on the right flank would allow Antonetti to line-up a competitive enough defence, with Boye and Mangane expected to start at centre back and a left back slot seemingly promised to Yassine Jebbour. Meanwhile, the Rennes manager also brought young right back Dimitri Foulquier, who should be living his first Ligue 1 experience from the substitutes bench.
Another Ligue 1 premiere, the presence of young Ghanaian midfielder Kamal Issah. One of the rare satisfactions of Rennes Reserve’s season in the CFA, the 18 years old had already appeared (without playing) in the squad eliminated from the Coupe de la Ligue by Guingamp in autumn. He profits of Tongo Doumbia’s suspension to return to the squad, for the first time in Ligue 1.
Finally, in attack, Dutchman John Verhoek is missing after receiving an ankle injury at training during the week. With Abdoul Camara also rested by Antonetti, striker Frank Julienne returns to the squad.
