Transfers: Rennes, biggest spender in Ligue 1

Transfers: Rennes, biggest spender in Ligue 1

After the recruitment of Onyekachi Apam, Johann Carrasso, Stéphane Dalmat, Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik, Victor Hugo Montaño and Georges Mandjeck, Rennes has now spent a total of 18 million euros on this summer transfer market, according to website sportune.fr.

The club is by far the most active in Ligue 1, the transfer window being very quiet since its opening in June. However, the money spent was partially covered by Jimmy Briand’s transfer to Lyon (6 million euros, including 20% to the player) and Carlos Bocanegra’s sale to Saint-Etienne (0.16 million euros). Not forgetting the large reduction of the wage bill with no less than eleven players having left the club this summer.

According to the same website, on top of a 2 million euros signing bonus, Moussa Sow is said to be paid a monthly salary of 120,000 euros in Lille, as France Football revealed in February. Easier to understand why he would not extend his contract with Rennes, when the club proposed “only” 70,000 euro!
