Reserve : The season begins against Avranches

This Sunday, the Stade Rennais Reserve hosts Avranches at La Piverdière. In this new season, Laurent Huard will mainly rely on the 1991, 1992 and 1993 generations.

Presentation of the Reserve Squad

Compared to last season, only Gaëtan Caro, recently awarded a one year professional contract (with two additional years in option), and Frank Julienne figure as the most senior members of this team, even though the squad should receive a hand from professionals little or not used in Ligue 1. Caro (centre midfielder and right back) was given the captain’s armband during the friendlies season, while Julienne (left winger, striker) played a part in the friendlies against Lorient and the Legia Warsaw this summer.

Players from the 1991 generation reach a turning point, as all of them are in the final year of their aspirant contract with the club: It is indeed at the end of this season, that Vincent Le Boulaire (Centre back, defensive midfielder), Frank Julienne, Quentin Rouger (Attacking midfielder, left winger) and Slimane Sissoko (striker) will be offered a professional contract or not. At this moment, Julienne and Rouger are the clear favourites.

The 1992 generation players have just signed a two year aspirant contract. Five members of the squad are in this case: Fabien Balisier (centre back, right back), Jean-Bryan Boukaka (striker, right winger), Vincent Dorel (goalkeeper), Jonathan Isambart (attacking midfielder) and Kévin Makila-Mutombo (striker, right winger). Only one player from this generation has been released by the club this season, it is left back Larry Adejuji, who has since joined the Valenciennes Academy.

Finally, some players from the 1993 generation could discover the CFA division this season if they confirm their performances with the youth teams. Three players seem to have an advantage on the rest: Abdoulaye Doucouré (defensive midfielder), Eliott Sorin (Centre midfield) and Wesley Yamnaine (centre back, left back). The three young men will obviously - and as last season - play an important role in the club’s Gambardella Cup campaign.

As far as arrivals are concerned, Benjamin Basse has been recruited from Mantes-la-Jolie (CFA), with whom he managed good performances in the two league games against Rennes last season. For a few weeks, Rennes had also taken Stéphane Badji on trial, but no information filtered on his case.

An “ A’ ” Rennes team against Avranches

For this game, Laurent Huard should be relying on a few members of the professional squads who remained on the bench yesterday against Lille (Kana-Biyik, Doumbia, Souprayen) or remained out of Frédéric Antonetti’s squad (Badiane, Boye, Camara, N’Diaye, Jebbour).

The Possible Squad) :

Goalkeepers : Dorel, N’Diaye
Defenders : Balisier, Basse, Boye, Jebbour, Kana-Biyik, Souprayen
Midfielders : Caro, Doumbia, Le Boulaire, Isambart, Rouger
Strikers : Badiane, Boukaka, Camara (?) Julienne, Sissoko.
