Antonetti wants to silence the interrogations

Over the last months, Frédéric Antonetti showed several signs of his growing impatience. First, early October, when he pointed the huge lag between the club’s sportive ambitions and the means at his disposal to achieve these results (read), and again last Sunday, when he admitted he wasn’t enjoying training youngsters for the other clubs anymore (read).

Talking to Ouest-France this Wednesday, Antonetti was eager to state - without denying his words – that he probably hasdn’t “used the right words”. “My reactions after the game as a bit of an alarm cry”, the Corsican manager justifies, while re-affirming his desire to keep his squad of young players on the long term.

Frédéric Antonetti also denied regretting any difference between what he experiences now and what he expected from the Stade Rennais. “I don’t blame the club for anything, the manager affirms. When I signed in Rennes, I knew the context perfectly well. Training young players is an important part of the job. It’s a policy I fully agree with”.

With a contract ending in June, Antonetti explained it was already “too early” to discuss a possible extension of his contract, which he considers “not deserving” after his ninth place last season. According to Ouest-France, he should be entering negotiations with his management in the “coming weeks” to possibly extend his contract with the Stade Rennais.
