Gambardella Cup : Rennes qualify for the Round of 16!

The Rennes U19 qualified for the Gambardella Cup’s Round of 16, by eliminating the Stade Malherbe de Caen, this Sunday afternoon at la Piverdière.

Reinforced this time by four 1992-born players, including Abdoulaye Diallo, the Rennes youngster managed to take the edge on a team that had beaten them twice in the league this season.
None of the team had been able to score during regular time, despite a few good chances, and it took the penalty shootouts to decide between the teams. On that exercise, all Rennes takers (Saïd, Héry, Isambart, Boukaka) managed to score their spot-kick as Diallo stopped the fourth Caen penalty. Finally, Rennes captain Bakayoko qualified Rennes by converting his kick.
Qualified for the next stage of the competition, Régis Le Bris’ youngsters will play their Round of 16 game on the week-end of March 20th.
