Le Lay : « Why would Antonetti want to go anywhere else ? »

Questioned by newspaper L’Équipe this Thursday, Patrick Le Lay would like to see his team qualify for the Champions League.

«It will be difficult, but I would like it if we could reach seventy points at the end of the season, the Stade Rennais president explains. To finish in the top three is not impossible. But to be champions still isn’t our objective”.
Indeed, if a qualification for the Europa League would allow the club to receive a “little financial help” from the Pinault consortium, Le Lay is hoping for a “big help” if the club was to qualify for the Champions League. “We can say it, since we will have the money from qualifying in the European Cup”, the Rennes president adds.

Besides, Patrick Le Lay shows optimistic regarding Frédéric Antonetti’s contract extension. “We agreed we would took about it with a quiet mind, from March 20th, after the trip to Lyon, he affirmed. And anyway, he will stay, Antonetti. This is not a cause of worry. Why would he go anywhere else?”.
And if the manager his requesting guarantees in order to keep most of his squad next season, his president is pulling in the same direction. “He is not the only one to have this desire, Le Lay admits. We will keep as much as we can from this team. The level of reinforcement will then be linked to our position in the League’s final standing”.
