Boukari will have to “adapt” to the centre forward position

This Saturday, Razak Boukari will wear the Rennes jersey for the first time in a Ligue 1 match. With Victor Hugo Montaño injured, the Togolese should be starting at the centre forward position, as he did during an hour against Cannes last Sunday.

Talking to L’Équipe, Boukari explains he « has the qualities » to play on this position, even though in the current state of things, he is “sure to bring more on a wing”. In Rennes, which “playing style suits [him]”, the former Lens man knows he will have to adapt his game to Frédéric Antonetti’s demand. “the manager is not the first to think I would be a good centre forward, but I haven’t played at this position since a long time, Boukari explains. I will have to adapt”.

A position that will suit him better than the one Jean-Pierre Papin wanted him to adopt when he coached Lens. L’Équipe reports that the former French international tried to reconvert him as a full back, and sent him to train with the squad’s defenders during two months.
