Douchez disappointed with his management

Douchez disappointed with his management

Johann Carrasso’s arrival in Rennes is not to everyone’s taste. Indeed, Nicolas Douchez seems rather upset that the club recruited the former French U21 international to compete with him as a first choice goalkeeper: "The management knows the truth. I don’t have to give my opinion. They have got their reasons, they make choices (…) Last year, they would probably have considered me as not transferrable, this is not the case this season. That’s where I see how my status changed between last season and this season", he declares to L’Équipe’s website.

Often handicapped by little physical problems last season, Douchez’ performance were well below what he had shown on his first season with Rennes. Moreover, under contract until June 2011, the Rennes goalkeeper is thought to have refused a contract extension, despite club’s will to propose him a long-term stay. Knowing the player will be free of his contract in June, the staff is keen to prepare the future and the player’s possible departure.

" Then they can extend my contract! I’m happy to be here. I’ve never said I want to leave”, the Breton goalkeeper gets fired up. By all means, it seems Frédéric Antonetti considers Douchez as his first choice goalkeeper for the new season, as he explained on July 21th: " Nicolas (Douchez) starts as the number one, but behind him, there is now a real number one “bis” (Carrasso)".

Douchez says he doesn’t know that the Corsican coach had taken such a decision: "He did not tell me, but there is one friendly left (…) In fact, this is not really my problem. The coach has to decide. I’m ready to play, the rest belongs to him", finishes the keeper, who is believed to have received a pre-selection from Laurent Blanc, towards France’s next international friendly against Norway, on August 11th.
