Former Players: Gyan and Sow in competition

At the end of December, the African Confederation of Football will be giving its annual awards. This Wednesday, it published its list of ten players running for the title of Best African Player for the year 2011.

Amongst the ten shortlisted players, there are two former Rennais. Already shortlisted last year (he finished on the podium behind Samuel Eto’o), Asamoah Gyan is back in contention, even though he doesn’t seem to have as many chances as in 2010.
Also included in the ten isMoussa Sow, the best goal scorer in Ligue 1 last season, who has been brilliant with Senegal since he joined in 2009.

Naturally, the competition wil be hard for the two former Rennais since it includes Morocco’s Adel Taarabt (Queens Park Rangers), Ghanaians André Ayew (Marseille) and Kevin Prince-Boateng (AC Milan), Ivorians Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Gervinho (Arsenal) and Yaya Touré (Manchester City), Malian Seydou Keita (FC Barcelone) and Cameroonese Samuel Eto’o (Anzhi Makhatchkala).
