Former Players: Montaroup in Ligue 1

A pure product of Rennes’ youth system, Aurélien Montaroup will discover Ligue 1 at 27 with the Stade Malherbe de Caen. Born in Rennes, the player arrived at the Stade Rennais aged six and left at twenty, winning the 2003 Gambardella Cup with the club’s 1984-1985 generation in the process.

Not offered a professional contract at the end of his training, Montaroup then went through the CFA (Orléans and La Vitréenne) and a disappointing experience in L2 (Créteil) before choosing to exile. In 2008, he was hired by the Dinamo Minsk and became the first French player to play in the Belarus league.
Performant with his club, he would remain in the former Sovietic Republic for three years, becoming a favoured source of information for the French media during Les Bleus’s games against Aleksandr Hleb’s national team.

Although he had a year left on his contract with Minsk, Montaroup seized the opportunity given to him to discover Ligue 1 with Caen, by signing a two and a half year contract with the club from Normandy. He will play at left back, and could make his debut in the top flight… against Stade Rennes, on January 14th at the Stade Michel-d’Ornano.
