Lyon - Rennes : Aulas hits out at the Stade Rennais

As the LFP announced this week, Stade Rennais will not be playing Lyon on Saturday 19th November but the day before, on the Friday. A decision taken to give more time to the Lyonnais to prepare their Champions League game against Ajax Amsterdam, on the following Tuesday.

If Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is to be believed, the proposition to advance the game had met fierce opposition from Rennes, as reported by monthly newspaper Lyon Capitale. Indeed, this decision deprives the internationals of both sides of another rest day, while Stade Rennais won’t have to play in the Europa League in the following week.
After finally getting a satisfying decision from the League, the Lyon president didn’t hesitate to attack his Rennes counterparts. “Mr Le Lay told me he “didn’t care” about Lyon’s game against Ajax. I think it’s a shame since there could be a flip of the coin there. One day, Rennes will probably need to win their European games. In fact, they should try and do it now since the UEFA index is also important”, Aulas ironized, referring to Rennes’ inability to win games in the Europa League since the beginning of the Group phase.

More than a week before the game, the atmosphere is already building between Rennes and Lyon.
