Rennes - Udinese : Platini in the stands?

Rennes - Udinese : Platini in the stands?

According to Ouest-France, the match Stade Rennes – Udinese, scheduled on 30th November, could be marked by the presence of a special guest, Michel Platini, president of the UEFA.

The newspaper reminds the words of Platini in Le Parisien’s columns, in August. « I do not necessarily expect to see big matches. I like to visit clubs which benefit of less exposition. I will see Rennes in Europa League », the former France national coach promised.
Invited for the tribute week of his former team-mate Laurent Pokou in May (they played together in Nancy), Platini finally couldn’t come. According to Ouest-France, who got the information directly from the UEFA, Platini is likely to come for the match Rennes - Udinese. A notable presence, since the former international has never come to the Stade de la Route de Lorient before.

« I haven’t been in Rennes since thirty years, and last time we trashed them ... », he joked in Le Parisien. Platini indeed played in Rennes only once.
On 27th November 1976, while he was still a beginner at the professional level, AS Nancy-Lorraine easily won in Rennes (0-3). Carlos Curbelo scored the first goal during the first half, and Olivier Rouyer and Michel Platini himself completed the score during the second half. Thirty five years later, almost to the day, the president of the UEFA should discover a very different Stade de la Route de Lorient and a very different Stade Rennes.
