An extended squad for the trip to Serbia
Europa League, Red Star Belgrade - Stade Rennais, Thursday, 20:30. For the “Rouge et Noir”’s perilous trip to Serbia this week, Frédéric Antonetti has called no less than twenty-one players. Pajot and Kembo return in the squad, not Brahimi, still unavailable.
Tomorrow morning, 9:00 am, the Rennes squad will board their plane to Belgrade, where they will play the first leg of their play-off against Red Star. A three hours trip involving the twenty-one players of the squad called by Frédéric Antonetti.
An extended group, including the club’s three professional goalkeepers, with Cheick N’Diaye joining his two precursors in the hierarchy.
But the most important news is the returns from injury of Jirès Kembo and Vincent Pajot. Involved in a friendly with the Reserves last week-end, both players are back to full fitness and they – although they’re most unlikely to start the game – could take place on the substitutes’ bench at the “Marakana”.
Beside these three returns, the squad will remain the same that faced Paris Saint-Germain last Saturday. Called for the first time this week-end, Chris Mavinga leaved Yassine Jebbour out of the first team once again, while John Verhoek will also remain in Brittany.
Another high-profile absence is this of Yacine Brahimi, who is still struggling to recover after receiving a knock against Rustavi, on July 28th. The French U21 international should “discuss his situation” this Tuesday with Karl Chaory, the club’s doctor, according to Ouest-France.
