Mombaerts won’t select Kana-Biyik anymore

In yesterday’s edition, L’Équipe published the reaction of Erick Mombaert’s, the U21 France national coach, to the decision of Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik not to honour his recent selection with Les Bleuets (see previously).

«If he isn’t proud to wear the French shirt, he doesn’t have to come », Mombaerts announced. Talking to radio RMC on Tuesday, the Rennes defender admitted he was considering his options before deciding whether to play for Cameroon (where is family is from) or France (where he was born) at international level.

«To me, reflexion means decision. Mombaerts decided. I won’t call him with the U21 anymore. However, the national coach isn’t resenting his former player (5 caps at this level). “He was honest enough to say it now, many took longer to do it in the past”.
