In-house replacement for Nicolas Douchez?

In-house replacement for Nicolas Douchez?

Since Monday, the announcement of Nicolas Douchez’ departure continues – and will continue – to feed the discussions. While the names of David Ospina (Nice) and Stéphane Ruffier (Monaco) were reported by the media to be on target, Stade Rennes could eventually decide to surprise everyone. Questioned on this topic today, Frédéric Antonetti gave a few hints, and it seems that the solutions are numerous… especially in house.

While he refused –for the moment? – to leave Douchez on the bench until the end of the season and bring in Johann Carrasso to prepare the future, Antonetti was keen to note he keeps an eye on Abdoulaye Diallo’s evolution, not hiding he could be the number one keeper for the 2011-2012 season: “I did it for Lloris (Ed.: Antonetti launched him in Ligue 1 when he was managing Nice), even though he was a year older”, he explained to L’Équipe’s website.
A situation which could lead Carrasso to leave Stade Rennais FC, according to his recent declarations in which he affirmed his wish to “stay and be the number one”. However, and regardless of the decision he will take, Antonetti made sure to reassure everyone about Rennes’ future goalkeeper: “All options are possible. We will find the equivalent solution (Ed: to Douchez). There will be no problem”, he finishes.
