Rennes ease past Nancy

The Stade Rennais did not have any troubles to beat Nancy, 3-0 on Saturday night, and earned their first success of the 2010-2011 seasons. Rennes was helped by the circumstances, playing against ten men after only fifteen minutes, but waiting for the second half to break the deadlock through Montaño (50’). Brahimi with a superb shot (58’) and Bangoura (87’) added to the score line for Rennes.

Rennes ease past Nancy

The Rennais started the game well, taking control of the ball during the first five minutes. The first chance was for Nancy however, but Douchez denied Vahirua (6’). The first shot on target was also coming from Nancy’s Féret (9’), while Rennes was mainly using long through balls towards Montaño.

The game took a first turn at the 13th minute. On a missed control, Alfred N’Diaye let Montaño run alone to goal and held him in a last defender position. The sanction was immediate: N’Diaye was sent off.

Enjoying their power play, Rennes was strangely unable to play as well as on the first fifteen minutes. Their opponents took profit of a few missed passes and errors to keep on creating themselves occasions, as on a corner at the 26th minute. A minute later, for Rennes, Kembo Ekoko launched Montaño in the penalty area. But the Colombian, alone against Bracigliano, was on an offside position.

Despite Lemoine’s injury (Replaced by Kembo-Ekoko at the 19th), Rennes created themselves the biggest occasion in the first half. After half an hour, two shots by Montaño and Dalmat were saved on the line by the Nancy defence (29’). A defence put in danger against just before half-time, when Mangane, alone in the area, was a whisker away from heading a Leroy cross (44’).

Back after the break, the Bretons were immediately more dangerous, and soon obtained a first corner, on which Dalmat hit the left post of a well beaten Bracigliano (47’). This was the final warning. A couple of minutes later, Montaño, just onside, came alone against the Nancy goalkeeper and scored his first goal with the “Rouge et Noir” (Nancy 0 - 1 Rennes, 50’).

Rennes had the game well in hand, and Montaño, already a goals corer, gave an assist to Brahimi. The young attacking midfielder, from the entrance of the penalty area, scored a beautiful goal in the goal’s top corner, for his first Ligue 1 goal (Nancy 0 - 2 Rennes, 58’).

Never put in any danger by the ANSL, the Bretons then managed the game and were close to leading 3-0 when, on a Leroy free-kick, Mangane’s header took too much angle (76’), and again when Bracigliano saved a shoot from Montaño (82’) after a great work from Kembo-Ekoko on the left flank.

It took only five more minutes to see Rennes score their third. Launched just onside, Bangoura, in since twenty minutes, beat Bracigliano with the inside of his foot, scoring his second goals in as many games (Nancy 0 - 3 Rennes, 87e).

Enjoying total domination, the Rennais won easily at the Stade Marcel Picot, well helped by N’Diaye sending off on the 13th minute. A deceiving score, or a real start to Rennes’ season?
